This commemoration was established by the United Nations (UN) in 1993 and has been in effect since 1994. International Day of Families aims to raise awareness of the world community on issues related to the family. It also aims to increase knowledge about the social, economic and demographic processes that affect families. The family is believed to be the most important element of society and social solidarity.
